Kim Hyun-joo, memulai karirnya saat di kelas 3 SMU sebagai model di sebuah majalah remaja dan mengawali debutnya di dunia entertainment pada tahun 1996. Tahun 1997 ia pun melai terjun ke dunia kting dan berperan dalam sejumlah drama serial. Namanya semakin dikenal ketika ia berhasil membintangi sebuah drama berjudul Glass Slippers di tahun 2002.
